WHAT IS THE LASER-Net?

The Los Angeles Stroke Rehab Network (LASER-Net) is an informal group by which all members of the stroke community can gather and communicate with one another about stroke related issues -- on a local level. This includes stroke patients and stroke survivors plus their caregivers, as well as those involved in stroke care, including physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, physicians, nurses, stroke coordinators, educators, researchers, pharmacists, optometrists, rehabilitation counselors, neuropsychologists, social workers, case managers, discharge planners, vocational rehab, and rehab managers.

LASER-Net hosts annual workshop symposiums and stroke education picnics. These events feature presentations by scientist - clinicians on current topics in stroke rehabilitation research that may inform future clinical practice.

ABOUT THE LASER-Net...

Forum: Provide a forum for learning, discussion, and interaction with colleagues - all revolving around stroke rehabilitation.

Education: Educate each other, share information, discuss innovative therapies, and possibly collaborate to enhance the quality of care for our patients.

  • Live talks by speakers of interest.
  • Share information regarding stroke rehab research opportunities.

Community: Discuss common interests and goals. Create a compendium of Los Angeles County resources relevant to stroke rehab, such as classes, facilities, transportation, services, treatment protocols, and research opportunities.

  • Bolster Stroke support groups.
  • Provide a voice for stroke and stroke rehab advocacy at a county level.
  • Create a database to pool experiences regarding patient therapies and outcomes.
  • Organize an annual Los Angeles County Stroke Day each May dedicated to awareness, support, & prevention, involving professionals, survivors, caregivers, and support groups.
